Music Together of State College
Our Teachers

All of our teachers are passionate about music and the development of children.

They create a fun, informal, social setting that spurs engagement and supports each child's musical development.

Kathy is a native of State College (maiden name Oelbermann). She graduated from Penn State in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development. While in college, Kathy was a member of the Phyrst Phamly sing-a-long band and she began to develop a solo repertoire as a singer/guitarist. She spent the next ten years in Washington DC and San Francisco areas working full time and performing music part time in various clubs and restaurants. Upon returning to State College in 1990, Kathy was part of a jazz/swing trio called A Train that performed at the Central Pa. Festival of the Arts and various private functions.

Kathy turned her musical attentions to preschoolers in 1996 and she taught music classes at both the YMCA and at various preschools throughout State College. She became a registered Music Together instructor in June of 2004 and opened Music Together of State College in the fall of 2004. She and her husband Fred have two daughters who graduated from Penn State. Kathy plays the guitar, banjo, and the baritone ukulele. She enjoys leading sing-a-longs in retirement, nursing, and assisted living facilities. She is a self-taught musician who comes from a family of performing musicians.  Miss Kathy is soon moving to the Savannah, GA area and will open a studio there. Miss Betha will take over Music Together of State College in late May 2018.
